Where to stay
Old Ufa sits on the high bank of the Belaya river. Visitors usually stay around Lenin Street and Gostiny Dvor, with merchant houses, theatres, cafes and pedestrian stretches. From here it is a walk to the riverside parks and the viewpoint by the Salavat Yulaev monument. October Avenue runs north-east through the whole city with newer buildings and malls, but is a ride from the historic area. The station district suits short stops.
When to go
Summer is warm and good for trips to Bashkiria's rivers and hills. Big forums and concerts fill central rooms.
Getting there
The airport is south of the city, with buses and taxis. Trains from Moscow take about a day.
