Where to stay
Tyumen's historic centre sits on the high bank of the Tura. The handiest base is between Respubliki Street and the river: the multi-tier embankment runs for over three kilometres, and the pedestrian Lovers' Bridge crosses to Zarechny Park. The Znamensky Cathedral, merchant houses and cafes are nearby. Respubliki Street has good transport but noisy front rooms. Many visitors come for the hot springs and stay near pools in town or the suburbs.
When to go
Any season works. In winter, bathing in hot springs in the frost is the main draw; New Year is peak time.
Getting there
Roshchino airport is about 15 km from the centre, with an express bus. Trains from Moscow take over a day.
