Ryazan works well for a weekend, and most visitors stay in the centre between the kremlin and Pochtovaya Street. The kremlin sits on a high bank above the Oka, with a cathedral and paths along the ramparts. Pochtovaya is a pedestrian street with cafes, busy in the evening; side lanes with wooden houses are quiet. Areas near Ryazan-1 and Ryazan-2 stations suit late arrivals. Konstantinovo, Yesenin's birthplace, is a day trip.
May to September is the nicest time. Winter suits a short museum trip. Holidays and big events fill central rooms.
Trains from Moscow's Kazansky station take just over two hours on the fastest services; drivers use the M-5. There is no passenger airport.
