Where to stay
Central Rostov is Bolshaya Sadovaya Street and the blocks between it and the Don embankment: merchant houses, cafes, the Central Market, the cathedral and stairs down to the river. The long embankment is lively on summer nights. Pushkinskaya Street, with a boulevard along its length, is a calmer choice a few minutes away. The main railway and bus stations stand side by side, handy for travellers heading south. The left bank has riverside restaurants and beaches.
When to go
Spring and September are most pleasant. In July and August many stop overnight on the way to the sea.
Getting there
Platov airport has been closed to passenger flights since February 2022. Come by train from Moscow or by road on the M-4.
