Where to stay
Perm's centre stretches along the Kama river. The best base is between the embankment, the esplanade and Komsomolsky Avenue, known locally as Kompros, with theatres, museums, cafes and bars a few minutes from the water. The Green Line, a walking route painted on the pavements, links the main sights. The main station, Perm II, lies outside the centre and suits late arrivals, while outlying districts mean long trips to the river.
When to go
Summer brings festivals, riverside terraces and trips to the Khokhlovka open-air museum. The Kungur Ice Cave is open all year.
Getting there
Bolshoye Savino airport is about half an hour from the centre by car, with buses. Trains from Moscow take about a day.
