Where to stay
Krasnaya Polyana is several resorts, so pick a base by where you plan to ski or hike. Rosa Khutor is a resort village on the Mzymta river with a promenade, cafes and evening life. Gorki Gorod climbs the slope in levels, the lowest by the Esto-Sadok station. The old village is quieter but needs a bus or taxi to the lifts. For full ski days, stay within walking distance of a lift.
When to go
Skiing usually runs December to April, with the most reliable snow January to March. New Year and February weekends book up first. In summer the gondolas carry hikers to trails and viewpoints.
Getting there
From Sochi airport in Adler, Lastochka trains go to Esto-Sadok and Rosa Khutor; buses and taxis take about an hour. On winter weekends the train is often more reliable than the road.
