Where to stay
Gelendzhik wraps around an almost closed bay with a long promenade. Staying in town suits those who want evening walks and cafes without a car; town beaches are crowded in summer. Kabardinka, on the road from Novorossiysk, is quieter. Divnomorskoye to the south is surrounded by hills and pine groves, while Dzhankhot and Arkhipo-Osipovka further down the coast are for sea and nature rather than town life.
When to go
The season runs June to September, peaking in July and August. The sheltered bay warms up a little earlier than the open sea. Spring and autumn suit walks to waterfalls and dolmens.
Getting there
Gelendzhik has its own airport; check current flights. There is no railway: take a train to Novorossiysk, then a short ride along the coast by bus or taxi.
