Where to stay
Arkhyz resort is several places along the Bolshoy Zelenchuk valley. Romantik village sits at the lift stations: stay there to walk to the slopes and have dinner nearby. Arkhyz village lies about 10 km down the valley, with guesthouses and a calmer feel, but you need a car or taxi to reach the lifts. Further down, Nizhny Arkhyz has the astrophysical observatory and ancient churches.
When to go
Skiing runs from December to April; New Year is busiest. Summer is for mountain lakes and waterfalls. Spring and autumn are quiet.
Getting there
Mineralnye Vody airport is about three hours away by car. Trains go to Nevinnomyssk or Mineralnye Vody.
